Optometry Today 's new education resource for practice teams

Optometry Today  (OT ) has released a new education package for optometry practice teams, delivered in partnership with the Association of Optometrists (AOP) and Johnson & Johnson Vision

OT’s new Practice team training offers a suite of modules to support the entire practice team including, receptionists, optical assistants, dispensing opticians, optometrists and managers. Each module is non-CPD and designed to develop key skills across various aspects of practice, in addition to improving training and development programmes for staff members.

Wendy Steele, AOP Commercial Director, said: “The AOP understands the importance of empowering employers to support their practice team, who are pivotal in the delivery of a seamless patient journey that is educational and encourages loyalty. We hope that our new Practice team training tool, developed in partnership with Johnson & Johnson Vision, will allow practice owners to provide their team with a programme of education that enhances their skills.”

Modules consist of a 25 minute pre-recorded lecture followed by a short multiple-choice exam. Participants will receive a downloadable certificate of completion after passing to help them keep track of their training and development.

The training package will include four modules, with two modules currently available to view, and a further two modules set to be released in September.

The first module is titled, Can presbyopes wear contact lenses?, and covers best practice in explaining contact lens options to patients, and tips for using patient-friendly language in explaining the pros and cons of different contact lenses. The second module is called, Lifestyle considerations, and covers key skills for teams to hone when tailoring solutions to the specific needs of patients when dispensing.

On the value of the training, Rachel Hiscox, Professional Education and Development Manager, UK & Ireland, Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, said: “Johnson & Johnson Vision recognises the value of the whole practice team in creating a smooth and successful patient journey in practice. We are delighted to support OT’s new Practice team training which we hope will empower teams to further improve their skills for the benefit of patients.”
