Vital guide for locum optometrists from Optometry Today

Optometry Today  releases the third instalment in its successful series for locum optometrists, in partnership with Johnson & Johnson Vision

Optometry Today (OT), is launching the third edition of its popular locum guide – a vital and free resource supporting locum optometrist members.

Stepping Up, produced in collaboration with the Association of Optometrists (AOP) and in partnership with Johnson & Johnson Vision, features in the April/May edition of OT, alongside a dedicated content hub for the supplement.

Locum optometrists, as well as those considering locum work, will find the 20-page guide covers practical advice including perfecting your workload planning, record keeping and a how-to on handovers. Experienced locums also share their essential advice and preparation tips for taking the next step in your locum career.

Wendy Steele, AOP Commercial Director, said: “Our focus at the AOP is to always ensure that members have access to support that is both tailored to their career stage and aligns with how they choose to practice, and the locum supplement is an excellent example of this. As our partnership with Johnson & Johnson Vision continues to grow, so do the tools and resources we develop and deliver to locum members. This is one of a number of initiatives planned for 2023 and we look forward to updating members on additional activity throughout the year.”

Johnson & Johnson Vision’s Sheetal Patel said: “We appreciate that locums are an important part of the eye care sector and have unique educational needs. Therefore, we are very happy to be able to continue, develop and evolve our partnership with the AOP and OT in providing tailored support to locums. The guide is one element of a diverse range of resources, tools, services and education aiding locums to continue to deliver great patient care.”

The AOP offers a range of support services to nearly 5500 locum members, including locum events and webinars, the AOP locum register and vacancies list, and the AOP Locum logbook online. Johnson & Johnson Vision is a key partner in supporting many of these activities.

Locum members can also access the AOP’s general legal helpline and tax investigation cover.
