Our campaign for children’s eye health

 A B See campaign

Our A B See campaign is an ongoing awareness campaign to remind parents, carers, teachers and those working in the community that sight is an essential part of every child’s development. 

Our campaign reminds parents that good vision helps their child achieve their full potential – in turn, encouraging them to make sight tests part of their routine, like any other health check.

How to get involved

You can get involved by downloading our member campaign pack – which includes materials that you can share through your own channels. If you are not a member of the AOP you can find resources on our public campaign page.

We also have a limited number of print resources available for members. These include a children’s eye health supplement (magazine), stickers and a poster. To request copies, please email [email protected]. Please note printed materials are subject to availability.

Making the most of your campaign materials

There are lots of ways to get involved in the A B See campaign. To help you get started we’ve compiled some guidance.

Banner and MPU

You can help the AOP promote the campaign by uploading the banner or MPU to your website and linking to
These have been produced in the most commonly-used sizes and they can be uploaded to your website and social media channels in the same way you would upload any image or video.

Social media video 

Utilise social media by sharing the short video we’ve created on either your personal or business social media page, such as Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn. Do include the link to our campaign page,, using the hashtag #ABSee, and don’t forget to ask your friends, patients and other contacts to also share the message. You may also like to display the video on screens in your practice waiting room.  

OT has also produced a patient-friendly video for practices to use, which is now part of the electronic campaign resource pack. The short video explores five simple tips that parents can follow for protecting their child's eyes.

Patient leaflet 

Use our leaflet on children’s eye health to advise parents and carers on why vision is so important for a child’s school and social development. We recommend that you use this information, following a suitable examination, to reinforce advice given to the child and their parents or guardian.

Letter to school head

We’ve produced template letters, designed for a dispensing optician or optometrist, which you can use to write to local schools to arrange a talk with pupils.

A school or community presentation is a great way to help raise awareness of eye health and optometry. Our presentations, designed for younger children and parents, can be used in a classroom, local community centre or youth club.

Children’s worksheets

Ask children to have a go at our worksheets which include activities such as designing glasses, drawing their own eyes and answering questions about vision. The worksheets are designed to be a fun way of learning about eye health.
