Hospital seeks pre-reg optometrists for 2019

Moorfields has issued a call for pre-reg placement applications

Moorfields Eye Hospital

Moorfields Eye Hospital is seeking to fill four pre-registration vacancies that it has beginning in the summer of 2019.

During the training period in the hospital setting, pre-regs will gain experience in diagnostic, pre- and post- operative, paediatric and routine refraction, contact lenses, low vision assessment, spectacle dispensing and automated visual field analysis.

The hospital highlights that pre-regs are encouraged to undertake on increasingly complex work as the year progresses. It organises regular sessions to enable pre-regs to undertake full routine eye exams on patients who are referred for VDU assessments in the hospital, and also in a community practice.

Tutorials and mock exams are arranged throughout the year, while observations in a variety of clinics such as glaucoma, A&E, general ophthalmology, medical retina, strabismus and the orthoptic department are offered.

More than 100 optometrists currently work in Moorfields’ optometry department.

The hospital has open days arranged for optometry undergraduates to visit the hospital on 9 March and 21 March (3–6pm). Places can be booked by emailing [email protected]

Applications close on 20 April, with interviews expected to take place in June and July. Successful applicants start in August 2019.
