The AOP has been supporting members for 75 years, providing much-needed advice and support.

Today, the AOP continues to support members in a variety of ways, offering indemnity insurance, legal representation and advice, CET training, webinars, political lobbying and a bi-monthly edition of Optometry Today (OT).

To celebrate this milestone year, the AOP spoke to AOP chair, Mike George and vice chair, Dr Julie-Anne Little about what the AOP means to them, and why it remains important and relevant to members like them.

AOP chair, Mr George emphasised that: “There’s loads of support and protection that the AOP provides. I think it gives us a sense of being in it together,” adding that “what I want our members to feel is that we’re there for each other, looking out for each other, like a sense of family.”

In addition, vice chair, Dr Little shared her appreciation of OT commenting that: “Optometry Today, our journal, is something that I really value coming through my postbox and it gives me a sense of connection to the wider profession.”

Chief executive of the AOP, Henrietta Alderman, shared her thoughts on this landmark year, commenting that: “The AOP is honoured to be in its 75th year. We are proud of our AOP community, working with members and for members every step of the way.”
