The global disparity in eye health
Dr Andrew Bastawrous will present the keynote session at 100% Optical 2020 the final day of the show
CEO of Peek Vision, Dr Andrew Bastawrous, will explore the global need to reduce avoidable blindness during Monday’s keynote session on the Main Stage at 100% Optical (25–27 January 2020).
During his presentation, Vision 2020 and a vision for the future of smart eye health, Dr Bastawrous will highlight the global disparity in terms of where need is and where provision is to deliver eye health services.
Speaking about the presentation, Dr Bastawrous told OT: “Optometry is one of the key examples of a workforce that is highly prevalent in places like the UK, Europe and America, but very few are available for large populations often of serval millions of people in low resource settings such as sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.”
Dr Bastawrous will also tell attendees about how mobile technology can improve eye health outcomes and identify those in need of further examination.
“My hope for speaking at 100% Optical is that it will inspire optometrists and other people who are working in eye care fields to see beyond the UK and see the need that exists around the world,” he said.
