How can prospective employees apply for a position at Heals Opticians?

If the telephone call or email demonstrates that we could work together, then an informal meeting would be arranged at one of our practices.
What is the internal process after an application is made?
It is a very simple process as we are a small independent. All applications are dealt with personally and quickly. After a telephone call to assess if what the applicant is looking for is something that we can offer, they would be invited to meet myself and Diane, the practice manager, to discuss things further.
What is the interview process?
The interview process is more of a relaxed, informal chat, although I do like the applicant to be dressed as they would expect to come to work. I would encourage the applicant to ask questions about the business so that they can ascertain if it is somewhere they would be happy working. I will be looking for someone who will fit well in our team and be able to engage with our patients.
What makes a CV standout?
Making sure that the CV is clear and concise is important, and it needs to be structured and well organised. It also needs to show any professional development and professional interests, as well as any interests they may have outside of work.

How should a candidate best prepare for an interview?
I would advise candidates to research the business and come prepared to ask questions about the business and the area etc. I would encourage candidates to think ahead about what questions they may be asked about themselves and their previous professional experiences and interests, so that their answers have been thought through and they can respond appropriately during the interview.
What interview tips would you give a candidate?
Show interest in the business, look at the person you are talking to and, while nerves are to be expected, try to smile and be confident in yourself and your own ability. An interview is a two-way process, the candidate is also interviewing me as a potential employer, so ask questions.

What are your interview pet peeves?
Stock or one-word answers that do not generate further conversation. People who mumble and those who do not look at who they are talking to.
