Scottish independent opticians McPherson Optometry has joined the Hakim Group, it has been announced.

Based in Aberdeen, the practice was founded in 1960 by Charles McPherson. Today, McPherson’s sons, Stephen and Malcolm, run the business, which has a team of 15 employees.

Priding itself on innovation, in 1990 McPherson Optometry became the first in the UK to have a digital retinal camera installed, taking delivery of the device a week before its local hospital received the same technology. In 2011, the business benefited from an extensive refit.

Speaking about joining Hakim Group earlier this month, Malcolm McPherson, said: “To help ensure a bright and positive future for McPherson Optometry, we need to continue to grow the practice for the next generation. That involves transferring more of our patient care to up-and-coming optometrists while maintaining the ethos of excellent customer service from skilled, effective professionals that has worked so well for the practice for such a long time.”

“We look forward to working in partnership with the experienced team at Hakim Group to realise those ambitions and provide our patients with the best possible eyecare for many years to come,” he added.

Head of business development at Hakim Group, Luke Wren, said: “As a practice committed to the development and education of its workforce, we look forward to helping ensure the next chapter in McPherson Optometry’s continued progress is equally successful.”
