Scottish opticians Duncan and Todd has announced the acquisition of Neil Cuthbert & Partners, a Dundee-based optical group of three practices.

The acquisition includes the transfer of 12 members of staff from the independent opticians to Duncan and Todd.

Sharing details of the acquisition, Duncan and Todd confirmed the closure of the Neil Cuthbert & Partners practice at Ninewells Hospital, while the group’s Commercial Street branch has been merged with Duncan and Todd’s existing practice on Reform Street. The merging of the practice has seen Duncan and Todd invest in a newly-refurbished city centre practice on Reform Street, which re-opened this weekend.

The third Cuthbert & Partners store, which is based on Strathmartine Road, will be rebranded to Duncan and Todd.

The acquisition comes a week after Duncan and Todd became the largest independent optical provider in Scotland following the acquisition of nine Black & Lizars practices.

Managing director of Duncan and Todd, Frances Rus, said: “We are delighted to welcome the team from Neil Cuthbert & Partners to the Duncan and Todd Group. As a long-established independent opticians, they are an ideal fit for us and we have been able to pool resources to concentrate on two key locations in Dundee.”

Speaking about the acquisition, Neil Cuthbert added: “We are delighted that Duncan and Todd will continue the dedicated personal service to all the loyal patients of the practices and provide optometric eye care to the highest professional standards for which the team and I always strived.”
