Optical Express is extending the range of ophthalmic services that it offers in its Newcastle clinic with a £1.5million investment following “local demand.”

New state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment technologies will enable to multiple to offer innovative lens procedures, lens enhancement and cataract surgery to patients at its St Nicholas street branch. The new equipment includes a Catalys femtosecond laser system.

Clinical director at Optical Express, Stephen Hannan, explained: “People are increasingly seeking treatments which help correct their vision, and laser eye surgery isn’t suitable for everyone. Lens replacement procedures utilising modern day lenses not only aid far vision, but can also aid intermediate and close vision, reducing a patient’s dependency on spectacles or contact lenses for the most common visual tasks.

“Until recently, patients who required lens procedures, such as cataract treatment, were travelling from Newcastle to Glasgow and Manchester for surgery. In response to patient demand, we’ve brought the latest in technology to our St Nicholas Street clinic, expanding our current offering in the city.”

The Newcastle clinic opened its doors in 2014 and has since seen more than 2500 patients, including former boxer, Glenn McCrory, and actor, Tim Healy.
