Consumers discuss their experiences with contact lenses

CooperVision has hosted a consumer roundtable to find out more about the experiences of contact lens wearers

CooperVision
CooperVision hosted a roundtable event with 24 consumers in Newcastle last year (4 November) which explored their views on contact lenses, as well as their experiences and understanding of materials.

Consumers were split into four focus groups: daily disposable silicone hydrogel wearers, daily disposable hydrogel wearers, frequent replacement contact lens wearer and non-lens wearers.

Consumer Denise, who wears daily disposable hydrogel lenses, spoke to OT following the roundtable and explained that none of her group were aware of the type of lenses they wore.

Consumer Kirsty, who wears daily disposable silicone hydrogel lenses, echoed this view also. However, she explained that she was keen to learn and be informed about new technologies coming onto the market so she could be certain that she is wearing the best possible lens “even if it costs that little bit more.”

Non-lens wearing consumer Alison said that, following the evening, when going to the opticians she would expect them to tell her exactly what is on offer “not just what usual people have.”

Reflecting on the findings from the evening, CooperVision customer marketing manager, Fiona Phelan, encouraged eye care practitioners: “Don’t be afraid to make recommendations to your patients...They are absolutely open to a professional recommendation. They are wanting to know what products are out there for them.”
