Johnson & Johnson Vision Care (J&J) will launch its Acuvue Oasys 1-Day contact lenses for astigmatism in the UK next month.

The contact lens manufacturer highlights that the new daily disposable contact lens, which will be released on 1 June, features both HydraLuxe technology and an eyelid stabilised design for “stable vision and exceptional comfort.”

J&J’s global astigmatism platform director, Dr Giovanna E Olivares, said that in designing the new Acuvue lens, the company had set out to create “an optimal contact lens option for patients with astigmatism that brought together our best technologies in material and design for a lens that provides clear, stable vision with the exceptional comfort that people have come to expect from the Acuvue Oasys brand.”

She explained: “Unlike other lenses for astigmatism that are primarily held in place by gravity and are often thicker toward the bottom of the lens, Acuvue Oasys 1-Day for Astigmatism harnesses the natural power of the eyelids to stabilise on the eye and the lens is symmetrical, resulting in minimal interaction between the lens and the lower eyelid.”

Acuvue Oasys 1-Day for Astigmatism will be available in the largest parameter range of any daily disposable silicone hydrogel toric soft lenses, with 40–67% more parameters compared to other daily disposable toric lenses, J&J highlighted. It added that the lens has a 99% first fit success rate.
