Rebecca Donnelly, Franchisee/Joint Venture Partner Optometrists Councillor, said: “Being part of Council has contributed to my professional growth. It offers insights into strategic thinking and governance, which broadens your perspective. It has allowed me to be reflective, both personally and professionally, and it has improved my confidence in contributing at a senior level.”
Councillors play a vital role in shaping the AOP’s policy work, ensuring that priorities reflect the realities of clinical practice, and acts as an essential link between the AOP and the wider profession.
Johnathan Waugh, Councillor for Scotland, said: “Being a part of Council means playing a role in shaping the profession, spotting challenges early and having the opportunity to influence positive change. If you’re considering applying, it’s definitely worth doing. You’ll gain a much deeper understanding of what’s happening within optometry. I encourage you to not hesitate and go for it.”
Eligible members are invited to apply from Friday 20 March and applications will close on Friday 10 April.
