Launched in May 2017, the AOP Peer Support Line provides confidential support to optical professionals experiencing stress or anxiety through a peer-to-peer listening service.

We are currently looking to recruit volunteers to the service who are pre-registration or very newly qualified optometrists to provide an additional specialised service to the pre-reg community, to start in June 2024. To apply you must be an AOP member, either a pre-reg yourself or a very newly qualified optometrist.

By joining our team of existing volunteers you will have the unique opportunity to positively contribute to the wellbeing of your peers. All volunteers will receive professional training in reflective listening and call handling, and regular support from the AOP and volunteer community.

Applicants will be empathetic, non-judgemental, able to refrain from giving advice, have excellent listening skills and commit to being available to take calls two days per month, 8am – 8pm.

If you think this sounds like you, read the role description then complete and return the application form, along with your CV, to [email protected] by Sunday 21 April 2024.

Applications will then be reviewed and suitable candidates will be shortlisted and invited to a series of online training sessions that will take place in March 2024, in the early evening.

More information about the Peer Support Line can be found at Information about the AOP Peer Support Line.
