Council appointments 2026

Applications are now open!

The AOP welcomes applications from eligible AOP members to join our Council in 2026. We are seeking candidates for the following Council positions:

  • Optometrist practising in Scotland 
  • Optometrist practising in Wales 
  • Director of an independent practice 
  • Director of multiple practices 
  • Hospital based optometrist 
  • Locum optometrist 
  • Early career optometrist
  • Employee of multiple practices
  • Employee of an independent practice.

No previous Council experience is required, just enthusiasm, a willingness to share your views, and an eagerness to engage with fellow members and represent your area of the profession. 

To apply, you must be a current AOP member, reside in the UK and work in the area you wish to represent.

As a Councillor, you’ll play an active role in AOP’s vital decision-making by attending Council and Committee meetings, contributing to policy development, and guiding how AOP supports its members. 

Our Council brings together representatives from across the UK and the profession to champion change and influence the future of optometry. As a Councillor, you’ll help shape policy, drive progress, and ensure members’ voices are heard at the highest level.

Key dates 

Nominations close on Friday 10 April 2026.

The Appointments Committee will meet in April, and successful candidates will be formally welcomed as Councillors at the AOP AGM in June.
