Luke McRoy-Jones has been named recipient of the AOP Student of the Year Award 2019
Winner: Luke McRoy-Jones
Luke grew up in the South Wales Valleys where both of his parents worked within the optical industry. He moved to Plymouth in 2017 to pursue a degree in optometry and has taken on additional responsibilities there, as Course Representative and President of the Optometry Society. He is committed to enhancing the student experience within the BSc (Hons) Optometry programme, and regularly attends meetings with the optometry academic staff, feeding back students’ ideas and concerns. He is incredibly excited about the changing role of optometry and what the future holds.
How it feels to be a winner
It was a real honour to be shortlisted and to go on to win the people's vote is really fulfilling. It says what you’re doing is right and I very much hope I continue to do that thoughout my student years and as I continue throughout my career as well.
