Winner: Second Sight

Founded by British Ophthalmologist Dr Lucy Mathen, Second Sight works to eradicate preventable blindness from cataracts in Bihar, North East India, training and working with local health professionals to increase access to cataract surgery. The charity has also successfully raised awareness and understanding of vitamin A deficiencies in children.

How it feels to be a winner

Winning this award is a great achievement. It’s recognition of the incredible work SS is doing to eradicate curable blindness, to prevent blindness and to leave behind a lasting legacy.
