The Association of Optometrists (AOP) is working to ensure locums can access the vaccine and with our input, LOCSU has now made available a new portal so that those who may not have access to local information can be kept informed. The portal allows for relevant details to be inputted and then these are distributed to the relevant CCGs/PCNs or LOCs.

All optical practice staff are a priority group for the COVID-19 vaccination. The published government guidance confirms that locums and non-NHS provider practices are entitled to be included in this phase of the vaccination process and the guidance highlights the various ways that locums and non-NHS providing practices can be included on a list to receive a vaccination.

Dr Peter Hampson, Clinical Director at AOP said: “There was a clear potential gap with regard to locums accessing the vaccine and the AOP has worked closely with LOCSU to deliver a solution.”

More details on the information collection portal can be found on the LOCSU website.
