Recall on daily disposable contact lenses

Members to check 1-day Acuvue Moist for Astigmatism stock

Daily disposable contact lenses

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency have issued a statement urging users of certain Acuvue daily disposable contact lenses to check their boxes for recalled lots.

The advice follows a voluntary recall from Johnson & Johnson Vision on their popular 1-day Acuvue Moist for Astigmatism which may have particles on the contact lens or in the contact lens blister solution.

Johnson & Johnson Vision have said that the recall affects a low level of stock and only certain lots of the contact lenses.

Practices stocking the affected batches should now have been notified by Johnson & Johnson Vision and instructed to contact patients who may have received the product. However, members can see if their stock is affected by checking the specific lot number on the contact lens box against the list published by Johnson & Johnson Vision in their field safety notice (FSN) and following the advice in this document.

Head of Clinical and Regulatory, Henry Leonard, offered the AOP’s advice to patients: “We believe the number of lots of Acuvue lenses affected is small, but we do urge patients to check the serial number on their boxes to make sure, and return them if they are an affected product. Contact lens wearers who have any concerns should speak to the optometrist or practice that supplied their lenses.”
