AOP supports no smoking day campaign
No Smoking Day highlights dangers to eye health
15 January 2015
We are supporting the British Heart Foundation’s No Smoking Day campaign to raise awareness of the link between smoking and eye disease. New research reveals that only one in five smokers in the UK are worried about how smoking will affect their eye health.
Henrietta Alderman, AOP Chief Executive, said: “As this research reveals, many smokers are unaware of the link between smoking and eye disease. An optometrist can pick up many conditions, including age-related macular degeneration – the most common cause of sight loss in the UK. A sight test is not about getting a pair of glasses – it’s a vital health check for your eyes.”
