Delegates to an Italian conference had the chance to view live-streamed footage of specialist eye surgeries performed by two UK surgeons.

Manchester Royal Eye Hospital consultant ophthalmologists and viteoretinal surgeons, Felipe Dhawahir-Scala and Niall Patton, each performed viteoretinal procedures during the E-Learning Ocular Surgery conference held in Milan.

Mr Dhawahir-Scala treated a patient who suffered a dislocated intraocular lens in an accident.

The Manchester Royal Eye Hospital patient’s vision was restored following the removal of the dislocated lens and its replacement with a retro pupillary clipped lens.

Mr Dhawahir-Scala emphasised that the five-day conference was a good opportunity to share learning and techniques with hundreds of other retinal surgeons.

Mr Patton performed a second live-streamed surgery involving a complex retinal detachment in a 75-year-old patient.
