Scientists have a created a new tool that can predict eye, hair and skin colour from an unidentified DNA sample.

Research, which was published in Forensic Science International: Genetics, describes how law enforcement officials and anthropologists can enter relevant data using a laboratory DNA analysis and the web tool will predict the pigment profile of the DNA donor.

The tool is able to produce results from a low quality and low quantity DNA sample. It is available without cost online.

The work has been conducted by scientists from Erasmus MC University Medical Center Rotterdam, and the School of Science at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis.
