The General Optical Council (GOC) is calling for applications for a registrant council member role on the optical regulator’s council.

Optometrists, dispensing opticians and contact lens opticians are eligible to apply for the position.

The appointment is to replace council member, Dr David Parkins, who comes to the end of his eight-year tenure in March 2024.

Council chair, Dr Anne Wright, explained that the GOC is looking for a critical thinker, who is able to express their point of view and offer objective advice.

“Being a Council member gives you the opportunity to share your skills and expertise
while learning from others too,” she said.

The role is part-time, with a commitment of approximately two to three days per month including time spent preparing for meetings.

Those interested in the role can find out more information online, with applications to be made by email with a closing date of 19 November.

“If you welcome the challenge of helping to shape optical regulation at this time, we will be delighted to hear from you,” Wright said.
