BCLA presidential address will explore “fears and opportunities” in the contact lens industry
The 2023 BCLA presidential address will be held in-person at The Royal College of Physicians next month
12 October 2023
The new president of the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA), Rakesh Kapoor, will highlight the “fears and opportunities” in the contact lens industry when he delivers his presidential address next month.
The address, which will be delivered at The Royal College of Physicians, London, on 29 November, is the first that will be given face-to-face in four years.
During the one-hour lecture, entitled Insights and Visions: A Practitioner's Perspective on the Future of the Contact Lens Industry in the UK, Kapoor will discuss the results of a survey he conducted among eye care practitioners, while exploring how contact lenses operate in other countries and what practitioners can learn from them.
Kapoor said: “Leading the BCLA is a huge honour and I look forward to hosting this Presidential Address where I will be sharing data that will help shape the future of our profession.
“Learning from each other is a vital part of how we can continue to evolve and improve and there are some fascinating insights from around the world.”

Following the appointment, Webley will be responsible for delivering the BCLA’s work programme for 2024 and beyond.
Chief executive of the BCLA, Luke Stevens-Burt, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have appointed Dave as our new chair and we very much look forward to working with him for an initial three-year period.”
He added: “As chair, Dave will work alongside some of the most inspirational and influential people in eye care as we continue to deliver a wide range of events, certificates and programmes for eye care professionals around the world.”
