The Independents Day (iDay) business symposium has been rescheduled for 24 October.

Originally due to be held in July, the one-day event in Birmingham was postponed due to a delay in the ending of lockdown restrictions and will now take place in autumn.

The event will focus on the topic of Commercialising Myopia Management and will feature keynote speaker, US optometrist and entrepreneur, Dr Gary Gerber.

Speakers will also include, optometrist, Sarah Morgan; chief executive of BBR Optometry, Nick Black; and myopia control specialist optometrist, Nick Dash.

Independents Day director, Nick Atkins, said the meeting would focus on “changing our commercial approach from a transactional sales model that simply corrects paediatric myopia, to a therapeutic model of managing a child's myopic progression.”

The event will be supported by the iShow exhibition, where optometrists can meet with suppliers.

Event hosts have added a special offer for delegates, who can receive £200 off the More Profits More Often toolkit from the Independent Marketing Partnership

The self-study programme includes strategies tried with a group of independents, as well as practical resources.

Atkins said: “This toolkit is a comprehensive resource that has a lot of straightforward and practical advice for all independent opticians for improving financial performance. I’m pleased that delegates attending iDay21 will not only get a great day of insights into successfully establishing the business of myopia management within their practice, but additionally the benefits of attendance can continue through the excellent resource that is the More Profits More Often toolkit.”
