A project that aims to educate optical professionals about living with sight loss has received an award from Vision UK.

Seeing Beyond the Eyes was recognised with the John Thompson Award for Excellence in Services, Support and Care 2019.

The initiative has resulted in the delivery of 60 continuing education and training workshops in England and Scotland since its launch in 2018.

More than 4500 optometrists and dispensing opticians have received Seeing Beyond the Eyes training.

Project lead and founder of Visualise Training and Consultancy, Daniel Williams, said that the team was “delighted” to win the award.

“It is vital that we continue our education programme as there is still so much more to be done to ensure patients receive signposting and referrals for support as soon as they get a suspected and life-changing diagnosis,” he highlighted.
