General Optical Council chief executive and registrar Vicky McDermott has stepped down from her role
07 February 2019
Chief executive and registrar at the General Optical Council (GOC), Vicky McDermott, has stepped down from her role.
Ms McDermott said that she had enjoyed her time at the GOC and is confident that there are great things to come for the organisation.
She left her post to spend more time with her family following the birth of her daughter.
GOC chair, Gareth Hadley, said that the optical regulator has made significant progress towards the Education Strategic Review, CET review and Business Standards during Ms McDermott’s time at the GOC.
Important reforms to fitness to practise were also introduced during her tenure.
“We thank Vicky for her contributions. We wish her and her family all the best for the future, as well as wishing her every success in her future career,” Mr Hadley said.
GOC interim chief executive, Lesley Longstone, remains in her role and the GOC has confirmed it will soon announce plans for a permanent appointment.
