Student duo selected to travel from Ghana to attend the BCLA conference

BCLA Conference

Two students from Ghana will attend the British Contact Lens Association’s (BCLA) Clinical Conference and Exhibition later this year having been awarded a travel grant.

The pair were selected from 20 candidates who applied for The Optical Foundation 2019 Frans Oosterhof Travel Grant.

Nutifafa Esther Senanu, who studies at Keane Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and Ebenezer Zaabaar, from the University of Cape Coast, will attend all three-days of the event, which takes place in Manchester on 30 May to 1 June.

The Optical Foundation is a not for profit organisation that aims to help make eye care accessible for all in Ghana. The selection process for the grant was led by the Foundation’s advisory committee, which includes Eric Papas, Fayiz Mahgoub, Ayeswarya Ravikumar, Bianca van Leeuwen and Thomas Stokkermans.

CooperVision UK will fund airfares, transport and accommodation for the students.

Chief executive of the BCLA, Cheryl Donnelly, added: “The two Ghanaian students will have an incredible opportunity to hear from our line-up of stellar speakers from across the world. It truly is an international conference and we look forward to welcoming both Nutifafa and Ebenezer to Manchester. It will be the trip of a lifetime.”
