GOC registration changes

The GOC has introduced changes to the registration this year

The AOP is reminding members that annual renewal for the General Optical Council (GOC) registers has changed this year.

Members should still visit the MyGOC section of the GOC website, and use the 'Apply for renewal' button. The online process must be completed by 15 March, and the regulator has confirmed that practitioners must use a desktop or laptop computer.

The two additional pieces of information that the GOC is asking registrants to supply is relevant qualification details, as well as information to help its monitoring of equality and diversity.

The additional information will be collected outside of the MyGOC area, with registrants emailed a personal link to a form to complete, the GOC confirmed.

Speaking about the changes, a GOC spokesperson explained to OT: “All registrants have to supply us with qualification details when they join the register. However, because many people have been on the register a long time, we do not have a digital record of these details in all cases. Collecting this data digitally, along with anonymised equality and diversity information, will help us to better understand trends in the professions as part of our regulatory remit.”

The AOP is encouraging members to watch its latest CET accredited legal video, On the record: team under pressure, which includes insight on registration requirements.
