The Love Your Lenses initiative, which was established in 2017 by the General Optical Council (GOC), will return in March.

The week-long campaign, which will run from 24–30 March, aims to raise public awareness about how people should look after their contact lenses. This year’s initiative will focus on the importance of hand washing and drying before touching your eyes.

The GOC has designed a toolkit in order to help the sector support the week. Designed for optometrists, contact lens opticians, manufacturers and industry, the kit includes advice for contact lens users, graphics that can be shared on social media, posters and ideas for activities during the week.

The GOC's director of strategy, Alistair Bridge, said: “Many people in the UK enjoy wearing contact lenses and do so safely. However, our research has shown that not all contact lens wearers know how to look after them properly and this can create a patient safety risk.

“Last year’s Love Your Lenses campaign reached millions of people. But to repeat and build on the success this year it’s vital that once again the whole industry gets behind the campaign.”
