The General Optical Council (GOC) is looking to appoint 14 new registrant members across a number of its committees.

It is calling for seven optometrists and seven dispensing opticians to sit on its statutory advisory committees which comprise of a registration committee, an education committee, a standards committee and a companies committee.

All of the roles are offered on a part-time basis, with an annual time commitment of eight days for those appointed to the education committee, and four days for those who join the other three.

GOC chair, Gareth Hadley, said: “Committee members play a vital role in helping us to protect and promote the health and safety of the public and patients. It is important we draw upon the considerable expertise that our registrants possess so that we can stay in touch with developments in the sector and make informed decisions.”

He added: “This is a great opportunity for personal development. The work is challenging and varied, and registrants will be able to learn from the experience of committee, colleagues as well as sharing their own. I strongly encourage any registrant who feels they can offer a fresh perspective and insight to apply for these positions."

Interested registrants have until 29 August to apply. For more information, visit the GOC website.
