ABDO College has appointed three new trustees who will serve for a maximum of eight years.

Practice partner Daryl Newsome will take up his appointment on 21 July, replacing the former chairman of the trustees, Huntly Taylor.

Mr Newsome has more than 30 years of varied experience, working as a dispensing optician, contact lens optician and an examiner for the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO). Mr Newsome is based in Devon where he employs 23 staff within three practices.

Ms Geri Dynan will take up her appointment on 29 September, replacing Kevin Gutsell. She has worked in the profession for almost 20 years and qualified as a dispensing optician from ABDO College in 2008.

Ms Dynan is an ABDO board member, a practical examiner and recently became an ABDO College distance learning tutor. She is also chairman of ABDO Northern Ireland Area and a committee member of Optometry Northern Ireland.

Specsavers director Ian Wills will take up his appointment on 26 January 2017, replacing Matt Trusty. He is director of Specsavers in Newton Abbott and Launceston.

Mr Wills qualified as a dispensing optician and contact lens optician before going on to qualify as an optometrist. He has supervised 14 students, two of whom have gone on to qualify as optometrists and three as contact lens opticians.

Commenting on the appointments, chairman of the ABDO College trustees, Angela McNamee, said: “Having chaired the interview panel, I am sure that Daryl, Geri and Ian will all make a significant contribution to the work of the board of trustees and I look forward to working with them.”
