WOPEC PEARS training day for Suffolk

Suffolk LOC to host a Primary Eyecare Acute Referral Scheme (PEARS) accreditation day for optometrists who want to provide the enhanced service

WOPEC PEARS training day for Suffolk
Suffolk LOC has arranged a Wales Optometry Postgraduate Education Centre (WOPEC) Primary Eyecare Acute Referral Scheme (PEARS) training/accreditation day for Suffolk optometrists who wish to undertake general referral refinement and provide the service as an enhanced service optometrist (ESO).

The WOPEC training will cover optometric management of loss of vision, including transient loss, ocular pain, systemic disease affecting the eye and differential diagnosis of red eye, as well as foreign body and emergency contact lens removal, plus dry eye.

It will also cover epiphora (watery eye), trichiasis (ingrowing eyelashes), differential diagnosis of lumps and bumps in the vicinity of the eye and recent onset of diplopia. Optometric management of flashes/floaters, retinal lesions and field defects will also be included.

The training will be provided by WOPEC at Eyepractice, 77 Thoroughfare, Woodbridge, Suffolk IP12 1AH.

To secure a place, optometrists need to book onto the Suffolk PEARS OSCE event with the WOPEC website, www.wopec.co.uk, and choose a time slot to do their practical training and assessment.

They are then required to contact Guy Marshall by emailing [email protected]
to request codes for the WOPEC online training module, worth seven CET points in total. This will need to be completed before attending the practical training and accreditation session on 22 March. The sessions will start in the afternoon and take around 90 minutes.

The cost of the practical session will be subsidised by Suffolk LOC, and costs £100 per optometrist.
