Newmedica has celebrated the grand opening of its new eye clinic in Nottingham in an event attended by the Sheriff of Nottingham.

The new site opened at the end of July and has treated more than 100 people in the two months since.

Patients have been seen for eye conditions including cataracts and glaucoma, with treatments offered on site including YAG laser and SLT laser.

Newmedica highlighted that, with the effects of the pandemic on backlogs for eye operations, the service provider is working in partnership with the NHS to help reduce waiting lists.

Sheriff of Nottingham, Councillor Shuguftah Quddoos, joined visitors at the clinic in Riverside Business Park to officially welcome Newmedica Nottingham’s team, and commented: “I am delighted to be able to officially open this new healthcare provider in the city.”

“It’s fantastic that they’ve already been able to help so many people in the local area with their sight problems,” she added. “It’s also fantastic to hear that the clinic is set to create up to 20 new jobs. I wish them every success for the future.”

In the future, Newmedica Nottingham plans to offer its facilities and knowledge to help train new NHS surgeons.

The new site will also expand its team later this year.

Karan Morjaria, operations director at the clinic, said: “We want the process of referral, treatment and aftercare to be as smooth as possible and to offer a truly personalised service that is uniquely tailored for every individual who comes through our doors.”

The new site is owned and run by Morjaria, alongside consultant ophthalmologists: Imran Jawaid, Veerabahu Senthil Maharajan, Aashish Mokashi, and Richard Stead.

Jawaid explained: “Being a partner means that my colleagues and I were able to guide the creation of this new service, from hiring and training the clinical team to designing the best possible processes.

“We’ve created what I believe is an exceptional service, designed specifically for the needs of our community, and all to ensure patients receive the best personalised care possible.”
