Wellbeing funding available for Derbyshire practices

A year-long pilot provides flexible funding for initiatives that bolster staff wellbeing within primary care

SP wellbeing
A year-long pilot in Derbyshire has enabled the provision of funding for wellbeing initiatives.

Dispensing optician and optical sector lead for the Derbyshire pilot, Lesley Parkinson, explained that there are 14 areas that have received pilot funding from April 2022 to March 2023.

This funding enables the appointment of four primary care wellbeing leads to serve dentistry, pharmacy, GPs and optometry practices.

The pilot has access to two health improvement advisers who can visit optometry practices to give advice on fostering healthy workplaces – for example, through posture and exercise.

A flexible pool of funding is available for initiatives that aid staff wellbeing. Those interested in suggesting activities or resources that could be funded through this pool can contact Parkinson by email.

Parkinson noted that the pilot is also appointing Wellbeing Champions within optometry practices. Both clinical and non-clinical staff are invited to apply. The role is unpaid but training in provided. More information can be found online.
