CCG selects Optegra for eye surgery

Optegra Manchester will receive all non-emergency eye surgery referrals in eastern Cheshire

Optegra Eye Health Centre

Eastern Cheshire clinical commissioning group (CCG) has selected Optegra’s Manchester hospital as the only facility it will send NHS non-emergency eye surgery referrals.

The decision was made following a review of ophthalmology providers, with the CCG announcing that with immediate effect it will only refer ophthalmology cases in the area to Optegra Manchester or the Macclesfield NHS Trust.

The non-emergency referrals that Optegra will receive will be directed from 16 GP practices in the region.

The eye hospital has 21 ophthalmic surgeons and offers a range of vision correction procedures including, cataract, glaucoma, retinal problems and age-related macular degeneration.

Speaking about the announcement, managing director of Optegra UK, Rory Passmore, said: “We are delighted to extend our services to even more people throughout eastern Cheshire by progressing this contract with immediate effect. With our strong surgical team, we have capacity and facility to meet the needs of these additional patients.”
