OT, in partnership with the AOP, will host its first-ever online locum day this weekend (25 June).

The CPD-accredited education day, has been designed to meet the needs of locum optometrists.

Delivered in partnership with headline sponsor Johnson & Johnson Vision and supported by Boots Opticians, the programme includes five live webinar sessions, each offering one interactive CPD point.

Sessions will cover a range of topics, including tips for keeping clear and accurate clinical records with the AOP’s head of clinical and regulation, Henry Leonard, advice on comfortably fitting patients with contact lenses delivered by Johnson & Johnson Vision, and a beginner’s guide to multimodal retinal imaging by Optos.

Also delivering sessions are Professor Bruce Evans, who will discuss guidance on orthoptics for busy locum optometrists, and Trevor Bibic and Rebecca Rushton, who will explore handling difficult workplace conversations.

Speaking about supporting the day, Johnson & Johnson Vision’s Sheetal Patel told OT: “Johnson & Johnson Vision is very happy to be partnering with the AOP to offer a dedicated virtual one-day programme for locums. The agenda has been specifically devised taking into account the unique educational needs of locums and how they can continue to provide the best clinical care to their patients.

“The locum cohort of eye care practitioners accounts for a significant proportion of the workforce and hence providing events such as these ensure that locums remain up to date with content that is relevant to them.”

Boots Opticians’ head of professional services, Kyla Black, added: “We are delighted that Boots Opticians is able to support the AOP in delivering this first online education day for locum optometrists. The calibre of the program is excellent with some great topics on CPD, and the day should be very valuable for any locums taking part thus enhancing their own clinical expertise.”
