Consultant ophthalmic surgeon Stephen Lash has been appointed medical director of eye hospital group Optegra Eye Health Care.

Mr Lash is promoted into the role having joined Optegra in 2011. The new position will see him take on strategic and operational responsibility for the group, with an emphasis on consultant engagement and clinical governance.

He will also work closely with Optegra Eye Sciences to ensure new technologies are assessed and introduced.

In the new role, Mr Lash aims to further establish Optegra as a high quality, national hospital group that can provide ophthalmic care in a sub-specialties.

Mr Lash, who originally trained as an optometrist, said: “My vision is that Optegra provides a national based, high quality, comprehensive offering which may help preserve ophthalmology with its complex and diverse portfolio of specialist provision.”

Optegra Eye Health Care has 23 eye hospitals and clinics globally.
