What are you most proud of?

Getting my job at Moorfields and being kept on after the pre-reg year.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Changing degrees isn’t such a daunting task after all.

If you could switch career path, what would you choose to do?

I would switch back to being a snowboarding instructor in the Rocky Mountains.

What do you like most about your working day?

I love the collaborative environment I work in, and being involved in the latest research with access to leading consultants in their fields.

What is your most cringe-worthy career moment?

Trying to align the slit lamp and bring it closer to a patient. When it wouldn’t go any further I wondered why before the (Scottish) patient interrupted with “That’s my chest, son.”

What is the one thing you couldn’t live without?

Microsoft Excel.

How do you manage a work/life balance? 

Try not to take work home. Easy enough when the bulk of the work is patients. 

What do you do to unwind?

Beer gardens and piano playing.

You have won the OT lottery. What are the first three things you would do with the £1m jackpot?

Be mortgage free, sort out my parents’ retirement and donate a chunk to the Moorfields Eye Charity.

Do you have your next holiday booked and, if so, where are you going?

I always aim to have a holiday on the horizon if possible. The next one is back to my other home in the south of Italy.
