23 February 2018
The State University of New York (SUNY) College of Optometry will award optometrist Professor Kovin Naidoo with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters at a ceremony in May.
Professor Naido is CEO of the Brien Holden Vision Institute, an academic and a former anti-apartheid activist.
He was a co-founder of the Clear Vision Optical franchise and has held a number of board positions throughout his career, most recently with the Vision Impact Institute.
Dr Frank Schaeffel, Professor of neurobiology of the eye at the Institute of Ophthalmic Research at the University of Tübingen in Germany, will also be recognised at the college’s 2018 commencement ceremony with the honorary Doctor of Science.
President of SUNY Optometry, David A. Heath said: “We are thrilled to recognise Professor Naidoo and Dr Schaeffel for their work to expand access to care and advance our understanding of vision, respectively. Their global efforts are truly remarkable and worthy of recognition.”
