Obituary: Daniel Roger Nicklin

A memorial service will be held for the optometrist in Guildford on 22 June

Daniel Roger Nicklin

OT is sad to report the sudden death of Daniel ‘Roger’ Nicklin. Mr Nicklin passed away following an episode of depression on 29 May, 2017.

Optometrist Mr Nicklin, of Nicklin’s Opticians in Guildford, studied optometry at the City, University of London from 1967 to 1970. After a pre-registration period with Bateman’s Opticians, he joined his father Barrie at the family practice in Guildford, where he continued to work until his death.

Always “a larger than life” character, besides his lifelong commitment firstly to his family and then to optics, Mr Nicklin had a wide range of interests and passions, including rotary, rugby, flying, sailing, skiing and motor bikes, to name but a few – he was even a member of the ‘Coffin Dodgers’ band.

Mr Nicklin’s family and friends are devastated by the loss of this “bright star” and the world will be a darker place without him.

A memorial service will be held on 22 June at 4pm at The Holy Trinity Church, High Street, Guildford GU1 3RR. The service will be followed by a celebration of his life at 5pm at the Guildfordians Rugby Club, The Pavilion, London Road, Guildford, GU1 1TU.

The family would appreciate those who plan to attend to inform them via Doodle.
