Specsavers appoints within its enhanced optical services team

Optometrist Adam Wannell has joined Specsavers as a lead for the multiple’s enhanced optical services (EOS).

Mr Wannell, who holds a Masters degree in clinical optometry, has more than 20 years of experience in a wide range of settings, including hospital, laser eye surgery and community practice. He has worked within the glaucoma specialist team at Bristol Eye Hospital since 2007, and is one of just a handful of optometrists in the UK who work within an eye hospital Accident and Emergency department.

The optometrist joins a team of 15 Specsavers heads of EOS whom the multiple describes as “responsible for giving peer to peer support to store partners, implementing best practice, planning clinical accreditations and delivering training.”

Speaking about his new role, Mr Wannell said: “When I met with Doug Perkins, I could see what his vision for enhanced optical services would mean for optometrists at Specsavers and for Specsavers as a whole, and how it would help to raise the bar for the entire optometry profession.

“This transformation of the optometrist’s role ticks all the boxes for me. It is clear that a sea change is needed because we are facing the perfect storm of technological change, an NHS under pressure and increases in eye disease.”
