Optometry graduate recognised
Nadine Joyce is named the recipient of this year’s OD Black Award
11 July 2016
Glasgow Caledonian University optometry graduate Nadine Joyce has been awarded Black & Lizars’ OD Black Award in recognition of her academic achievements. She receives £500.
The accolade is presented annually to Glasgow Caledonian’s top optometry graduate in dedication of the memory of Oscar D Black, founder of the opticians which later merged to create Black & Lizars.
Ms Joyce decided to embark on a career in optometry after she was diagnosed with optic disc drusen during a routine eye test as a child. Now graduated, she will complete her pre-reg placement at Black & Lizars’ practice in Ayr, Scotland.
She said: “I am delighted to receive the award and I am now looking forward to the opportunity to take on new challenges and to working with some of the most advanced equipment available in the country, including the Optos ultra-wide imaging and 3D OCT scanner.”
Ms Joyce was presented with the award by the managing director of Black & Lizars, Michelle Le Prevost, who said: “I am really pleased to present this award to Nadine for her outstanding work throughout her studies. I look forward to one of Scotland’s top optometry graduates joining us at Black & Lizars.
“I am sure the patients she will help and guide over the years will appreciate all the knowledge and skills she has acquired throughout the course of her degree studies.”
