University Valli Opticians has announced plans for a free educational conference for eye care professionals.

A collaboration between Valli Opticians and the University of Huddersfield, University Valli Opticians, will deliver a continuing professional development (CPD) event on Sunday 10 September on the university campus.

Sponsored by Hoya Lens UK, Alcon, Optegra and The Body Doctor, the event is open to optometrists, dispensing opticians and contact lens opticians.

Delegates can earn up to 15 CPD points through the event, which will run two tracks of lectures and workshops for participants to choose from.

Sessions will include: Age related macular degeneration treatments in 2023 by consultant ophthalmologist Mr Sajjad Mahmood, Dry eye and wellbeing by optometrist Piyus Tanna, and Optical coherence tomography – front to back by Dr Rebekka Heitmar.

Further topics include toric contact lenses, accessibility, and cataract and postoperative complications.

Moin Valli, CEO of Valli Opticians, commented: “At University Valli Opticians, we are in a unique position where we have a wonderful space and facility to be able to put on events like this for the wider optical community.

“Thanks to our event sponsors, we have a fantastic line-up of speakers covering a broad range of topics, and we are expecting to see professional colleagues attend from across the UK.”

The event marks the second of what organisers have suggested is “becoming an annual conference.”

Exhibitors will also support the event, including Birmingham Optical, Haag Streit, Nano Vista and the College of Optometrists.

Professor John Siderov, head of optometry at the University of Huddersfield, described it as “great news for local eye care professionals.”

Organisers have recommended that those interested in attending register early as places are limited.
