Virtual event held following postponement of 2020 Scottish Optical Conference

A virtual optical education event was attended by 171 delegates following the postponement of the 2020 Scottish Optical Conference (SOC).

The in-person SOC has been rescheduled to 22 November 2021 at Glasgow Radisson Blu, with online bookings now open.

The online event, held on 22 November 2020, covered a range of optical topics in a series of 15-minute rapid fire presentations.

Consultant ophthalmologist, Dr Sanjay Mantry, discussed consent for cataract surgery, while Professor Nick Rumney, of BBR Optometry, detailed a new software integration platform.

Dr Kathy Morrison, of NES Optometry, shared her tips for using equipment effectively amid pandemic restrictions. This included advice about Volk lens de-misting, BIO headset usage for domiciliary paediatric patients, and how capture an anterior eye picture with a xyzzy adaptor and smartphone.

Marketing chairman at Positive Impact, Nick Atkins, discussed dry eye treatment and described how optometrists can distribute dry eye products straight to the patients for improved convenience and care.

Professional services consultant at Thea Pharmaceuticals, Meena Puar, discussed the company ethos of education and providing the practitioner with innovative products.
