Specsavers announces recruitment drive

Multiple to recruit 600 optometrists, as well as dispensing opticians and optical assistants

Specsavers announces recruitment drive
Following the successful appointment of more than 600 optometrists last year, Specsavers has announced that it expects to recruit a similar number in 2015.

The multiple is embarking on ‘significant expansion’ this year and will also be recruiting dispensing opticians, optical assistants and retail staff.

Robert Mould, Specsavers' head of recruitment services, said: “We’re glad to be announcing so many new opportunities to welcome new staff to the business this year. To make sure our stores have the best possible support, we’re continuing to invest in people, our stores and our infrastructure.”

He added: “With a host of award-winning development programmes available, as well as our strong university links, successful applicants will find plenty of opportunities to develop their skills.”

The ‘Specsavers Partnership’ is the world's largest optical retailer, with almost 2,000 stores operating across 10 countries. There are currently over 15,000 people working in stores across the UK and the Republic of Ireland, of which 1,700 are Joint Venture Partners (JVPs) who own and run the stores.

The multiple highlighted that it is always looking for new JVPs and emphasised that it runs a successful ‘Pathway’ scheme for its practitioners and retail staff who wish to progress to owning and running their own store.

The scheme involves a 24-week training period on three core areas including culture and brand, as well as finance and business, and leadership.

Mr Mould said: “As a family-run company, our culture is based on strong family values. We set ourselves high targets, but we get things done by doing the simple things well and developing strong partnerships that enable people to fulfil their potential. For our customers, this means having their expectations exceeded every time they walk into a Specsavers store.”

He added: “For our Joint Venture Partners, it means having the support they need to build a successful business. And for our people, it means having the scope and opportunity to develop their skills and build a successful career.”
