Inside the design: Silhouette’s Vivid Sky

What motivated the creation of a new collection for Silhouette?

Roland Keplinger (RK), head of design for Silhouette: The aim was to bring a fresh appeal and widen the range of our full-rim options for wearers and fans of the Silhouette brand. We wanted to spark creativity by being adventurous with colour, while staying true to our values of lightness, through the use of high-tech materials. A mix of bolder colours and a wider side design helped us achieve this.

Who would you describe as the target market for these frames?

RK: We wanted Vivid Sky to appeal to discerning urban professionals looking to make a style statement. The designs needed to feel effortless and cosmopolitan, whether worn for work or pleasure. The collection offers an eclectic selection of lens shapes and finishes, so wearers can find the right look to suit their personality.

How is the collection inspired by digital art?

RK: Digital art encompasses a wide range of techniques to create a true visual experience, and that was the inspiration for Vivid Sky. We combined colour blocking, wider contours, and thicker materials, to offer a sense of the extraordinary, but we also wanted the collection to feel somewhat enchanting.

How has this inspiration translated into the design of the four styles in the Vivid Sky collection?

RK: The idea was to spark creativity, and you could say we got a little carried away. There are four full-rim shapes in six powerful colours with two-tone options as well as matte and gloss finishes. In total, there are almost 50 style combinations to choose from, so we think our virtual online try-on tool will prove useful.

How would you recommend describing this new collection to patients?

RK: We would say these are colourful, full-rim frames for work and leisure. They are bold in design and colour, but with a wide range of shapes and finishes so the wearer will have no trouble finding a style to suit their individuality. In practical terms, Vivid Sky uses signature Silhouette techniques and aesthetics to create extraordinary eyewear that is incredibly lightweight, easily adaptable, and maintenance-free.
