For OT’s January edition, we looked at the story of how eyewear design is changing, and met the innovators injecting new life into the international frames market.

For eye care practitioners such as Lynne Fernandes, of Lynne Fernandes Optometrists, eyewear design should always put the customer experience first. But how is this achieved?

For Ms Fernandes, this means making sure the product feels right, so that the quality of the materials “shines through.” The fit of the frames is also key, as is the final look of the spectacles for the wearer.

“Think about combining an interesting shape with a safe colour – or vice versa,” the optometrist explained to OT.

For optometrist Neil Retallic, having a bespoke approach is important. The learning and development manager at Vision Express explained: “If the design is creative, individualised, and fun, people will value it more.”
