Haag Streit has announced the winners of its Slit Lamp Imaging Competition 2023.

Now in its fourth year, the competition attracted the most image submissions to date.

The competition winner was named as Pia Emilia Lohri, from Lucerne Cantonal Hospital in Switzerland, who captured an image on the BX 900 slit lamp that displayed a patient with dislocated intraocular lens [pictured above].

Judges praised the overall execution of the image.

The winner of the competition receives a Nikon Z 6 II with Nikkor lenses and will have her work published in an ophthalmic journal.

The prize for runner-up went to Yang Zhang, of Beijing Tongren Hospital in China, for an image of exudative membrane connecting the anterior capsule to the cornea.

The technical mastery of the image was recognised by judges, who noted that it was a challenging image to capture. Zhang will receive an Apple Watch Ultra.

In third place, Katie Lachut-Yevich from VCU Health System in the US was gifted an Ona Brixton leather camera bag for her image of a Morgagnian cataract.

Beathan Halbert, of NHS South Tyneside and Sunderland in the UK, was named as one of the competition finalists for an image of epicapsular stars.

The competition received more than 350 submissions from 18 countries.

The judging panel included photographer, Mac Curchod, ophthalmologist Jesús Conejero, and Haag-Streit team members, Frank Wenger and Jacqui Kenyon.

Wegner congratulated entrants, sharing: “We are inspired by your passion for this competition.”
