CooperVision will host its second Virtual Perspectives event on 6 February – a one day conference exploring trends in contact lens science and education.

The 2021 Virtual Perspectives event was attended by over 4000 delegates and returns for 2022 as part of CooperVision’s International Seminar Series.

The free online conference will bring together eye care professionals and keynote speakers to discuss topics around the theme of ‘Shaping the future of contact lenses, together.’ Sessions will be translated simultaneously with supporting subtitles.

In the opening session, Professor Nathan Efron, Emeritus Professor in the School of Optometry and Vision Science at Queensland University of Technology, and CooperVision’s director of global professional affairs, Karen Walsh, will share their insights on optimising wearer satisfaction.

Commenting on the conference, Efron said: “The format of the event gives so many delegates from numerous countries the opportunity to hear the latest thinking across a range of topics that affect contact lens practice today.”

Sustainability will be a key topic, with research optometrist from Eurolens Research, Sarah Smith, delivering a session on the disposal and recycling of contact lenses, and the impact of different modalities. This will be followed by a discussion with panellists from the industry, research settings, and the sustainability sector.

Myopia management will also be a spotlighted topic. Indie Grewal, dispensing optician, optometrist and practice owner, as well as immediate past president of the British Contact Lens Association, will be joined by Dr Elena Garcia Rubio, the director of the Instituto Nacional de Optometría, to share their experiences of communicating myopia management practice to patients and parents.

This session will be followed by a panel discussion on learnings from the MiSight 1 day clinical trials.

A number of additional ‘side’ sessions will be offered during the conference, including toric multifocal lens management, views from ophthalmology on why myopia matters, and the business of myopia management.

Further sessions on myopia management will include a clinical session with Professor Nicola Logan, Professor of Optometry and director of research for the Optometry and Vision Science Research Group at Aston University, and insight into the public health impact, delivered by Professor Padmaja Sankaridurg, head of the Myopia Program and intellectual property manager at the Brien Holden Vision Institute, and Conjoint Professor at the School of Optometry and Vision Science in Sydney, Australia.

Outside of the conference sessions, delegates will be able to visit the Science Expo to browse 39 scientific posters and papers, and attend discussion lounges.

David Webley, senior manager of professional services EMEA at CooperVision, said the company is “excited to be bringing Virtual Perspectives back for the second time, following the fantastic success of last year’s event. Once again, our globally-renowned guest speakers represent the thought-leaders in a range of topics that are key for eye care professionals today.”

Individuals interested in attending the event can register online or contact their CooperVision business development manager.
